Why the Beard But No Moustache?

To answer this question we need to travel back in time to the 1800s. During this time if you wore a mustache, regardless of what shape it was, you were seen as being an affluent member of the community or being a member of the armed forces. Because the Amish believe in Gelassenheit or letting things be as God originally intended, they shun physical wealth as well as any fighting, and so they adopted the practice of shaving their mustaches off and leaving only their beard to grow naturally.
